The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proactively worked with suppliers and distribution systems to assess the supply of goods in the market. Accordingly, with the characteristics of a country with strengths in agricultural production, the supply of goods, especially essential goods, is not lacking.

Specifically, Vietnam is currently a country that is among the top in the world in terms of agricultural and aquatic product farming and food processing. Goods produced in Vietnam not only supply enough for the market but also have surplus for export. Many export items are among the top in the world such as rice, some agricultural and aquatic products and are developing quite well in light industries such as sugar, milk, cooking oil, etc.
From the distributor's perspective, through working, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the units have also planned to proactively supply in case the epidemic becomes complicated and consumer demand increases. Through the updated report, it shows that Saigon Co.op has increased the supply of goods to the system by 50% - 100%. Along with that, vegetables, rice, noodles, meat, spices, cooking oil... are continuously added to the shelves with stable prices, even discounted, to reassure consumers. As for the BigC supermarket system, this unit has also tripled the amount of goods in stock at the warehouses. Supermarkets Vinmart, Lotte Mart, MM Megamarket... also said that the supply of essential food products in the system is still guaranteed at stable prices and has reserves from other provinces and cities.
According to data compiled from ministries, branches and industry associations, the supply of some essential goods nationwide in 2020 will be very abundant. Of which, for food items, the output of paddy will reach 43.3 million tons (equivalent to 26 million tons of rice); livestock and poultry meat will reach 5.5 - 5.8 million tons; seafood will reach about 8.2 million tons. For fruits and vegetables alone, the output is expected to reach 17.18 million tons and the total production of fruits and vegetables will reach about 40 - 50 million tons. Other items such as cooking oil, sugar, toilet paper, medicine, etc. are also stockpiled, not only enough for domestic supply but also for export.
Businesses looking for raw material sourcing
To reduce the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, many domestic enterprises are joining together to support the supply of production materials, reducing the pressure of dependence on imported raw materials.
The representative of Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company said that the company has proactively prepared a backup plan, searching for additional sources of raw materials of the same type from many different markets at home and abroad. Although the new sources of raw materials may increase in price by 5% - 10%, in some places up to 20%, which may greatly affect the product price, the company accepts to maintain production activities, promptly meet orders to supply the market.
Since 2019, Dien Quang has had a policy of exploiting circular economic factors, such as building circular product sets and circular materials (reusing packaging, using plastic boxes and trays instead of carton packaging), recovering products and reprocessing materials from construction projects. The Covid-19 pandemic is an opportunity for the company to promote the widespread implementation of this major policy.
In addition, to help people limit going to crowded places with high risk of infection, many businesses have been working with distribution systems to promote online sales. At the same time, businesses are promoting the provision of complete and detailed product information on websites, social networks, and 24/7 online consultation to help consumers easily choose.
